Students should be aware of all of the important milestones in moving toward your graduate degree (listed below). In addition, All students should be familiar with all relevant timelines and deadlines, as well as the general policies of the Graduate School. Most of the Graduate School's policies may be found in Section 4 of the Graduate Catalog. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Graduate School.

Milestones

Degree-Seeking: Provisional Admission

Students who are unable to submit all required documentation for admission prior to the beginning of the term may be Provisionally Admitted to a graduate program. Students who have been Provisonally Admitted must submit ALL required documentation and be granted clear admission to the graduate program before they are allowed to register for any academic term beyond their initial term of entry.

Degree-Seeking: All Students

All degree-seeking students should keep in mind these important milestones:

Planned Program
All students should meet with their assigned advisor early in their first term and develop a planned program of study. The planned porgram must conform to the program published in the Graduate Catalog at the time of admission. In additon to required courses, students should specify all elective courses that they intend to take as part of their degree program. A copy of your planned prgoram must be submitted to the Graduate School.

Admission to Candidacy
Students NO LONGER must apply for admission to candidacy.

Apply for Graduation
All students must apply for graduation prior to the beginning of the semester in which they intend to graduate. Students will be considered for graduation only if they have an overall and program grade point average of 3.0 or higher at the beginning of the term in which they wish to graduate. Please review the information posted on the Apply for Graduation section of this website.

Comprehensive Examinations/Thesis
All students must meet with their advisor to schedule their comprehensive exams. Students must apply for graduation prior to the scheduling of their comprehensive examinations. Students electing to do a thesis may be exempt from comprehensive examination requirements other than the oral defense of their thesis. Students preparing their graduate thesis should download the Thesis Guidelines. Please review the guidelines carefully and prepare your thesis according to the instructions given in the guide.
