2008 Graduate Assistant Orientation The Graduate School is hosting a Graduate Assistant orientation on Thursday, August 21 from 8:00 a.m. until noon. This will be a mandatory orientation program for all Graduate Assistants (approximately 300 students). Graduate Council and the Graduate School wants to provide a better process for orienting our Graduate Assistants to EKU and to insure that all GA know what their responsibilities are. Part of this orientation process is to provide the students with information regarding the services they can take advantage of while at EKU. Another part is to make sure each student has all of his/her paperwork completed, emails accounts obtained, parking passes, etc. During this orientation we will provide the GA with information about EKU: athletic facilities, counseling center, student life, career services, food services/Colonel Card, SGA Graduate Council and assist them with administrative issues: HR, Public Safety (parking permits), IT (email set-up). Please note - each program should still strive to complete all necessary HR paperwork before this date. In addition to providing this general orientation session, we are also providing more specialized training opportunities for our GAs. The attached file sets forth the times, dates, and locations of the various sessions dealing with different topics – research, tutoring tips, ins and outs of university teaching, and blackboard/classroom management tools. (Of note, it is highly recommended that if your GA is used as a Teaching Assistant they also attend the tutoring session since that session will provide detailed information regarding EKU classroom management techniques, including the EKU AI Policy, EKU Disruptive Student Policy, etc.) Registration: EX:
You will receive an email that will confirm the times and dates of the various specialized training sessions for which you have registered your GA. The schedule for the orientation and training sessions can be found here. Our goal is to hold these orientations every fall to provide our students with the resources they need to be the most effective Graduate Assistants they can be and to glean the most from this experience with EKU. We look forward to a successful event.
